Schoolyard Secrets

A project by Luna Maurer and Simone van Dusseldorp.

Quicktime programming by Jonathan Puckey.

‘Schoolyard secrets’ is a nine episode television series and a website. In every episode you experience the same 15 minute recess, through the eyes of a different child.

The viewer also hears the secret thoughts of the child. On the website the 15 minute recess is frozen to a single moment, in which you can explore the thoughts of all the children in the schoolyard: The user can click on each child and experience their point of view.

By navigating from the perspective of the child. You can follow a route or just navigate at random and find your own story in the more than 350 thoughts.

winner PRIX EUROPA 2004, category: ‘internet fiction’

Jury PRIX EUROPA: “… It has a great theme, fine writing, a wonderful concept, and really good technology.

The ‘frozen moment in time’ in the schoolyard seen from different individuals is an unforgettable investigation into how diversity of perception creates tension in any human setting.

These are secrets, but which also lie just below the surface all over the planet.”
